Building an Integrated Service Management Platform for Ubiquitous Cities
Dramatic technology progress over the past years is bringing unprecedented changes to every corner of our society and daily life. Particularly, recent technological developments, such as wireless and mobile communications, RFID, wireless sensor networks, and geographic information systems, have paved the way for ubiquitous networking of various devices, sensors, and things. Internet-enabled devices are expected to be increasingly used not only for communications but also for accessing and processing information. Smart mobile devices along with high-speed backbone, far-reaching access networks, and sensors embedded in the environment provide a technical foundation for a u-City (ubiquitous City) where objects and people are tied intimately. New innovations are being called for in providing infrastructural urban services among other efforts to cope with the changes, as advances in ICT technology open up new opportunities for more effective and efficient urban management.
