Mobile data users prefer still overwhelming USB modems for PCs and other devices that are connected on the go, but they can see more built-in cellular radios and portable Wi-Fi hotspots in the next five years, according to ABI Research.
Despite the growing market for connected tablets and the availability of laptops and netbooks with high speed cellular modules built surpass worldwide shipments of USB modems have built-in 3 G and 4 G modules by three to one, ABI in a report said Monday. But by 2016, that ratio can be changed to near parity, said ABI analyst Jeff Orr.
